《鞭 / 𨰝》

Chinese Whip / Truncheon

The Chinese Whip 鞭 (Bian) or Truncheon 𨰝 (Jian) is a brute bludgeoning weapon. It can be used to break bones, delivers a mean thrust, and snap blades in half.

This manual was written by 程子頤 (Cheng Zi Yi). He is the nephew of Master Cheng Zong You, who famously wrote manuals on the Spear, Long-Saber, Crossbow and Shaolin Staff.

According to the manual, Cheng Zi Yi found that the techniques of the Whip and the Long-Saber are very similar, and adapted the Long-Saber techniques into the practice of the Whip.

If you're already familiar with the Long Saber techniques, you may find that this manual on the Whip is very similar.
